Team India has been dealt another blow as all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against England due to a serious knee injury. The setback comes ahead of the crucial fourth Test at Old Trafford.
Reddy, 22, who featured in the second and third Tests, sustained the injury to his left knee. While the exact cause of the injury is yet to be revealed, it is believed to have occurred during a mobility training session.
News of Reddy's injury follows the likely absence of pacer Akash Deep, who is also nursing an injury. Akash Deep, a key player in India's victory in the second Test at Edgbaston, is expected to miss the Manchester Test. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is also ruled out of the fourth Test, scheduled from July 23 to 27.
The BCCI confirmed the injury and announced that Nitish Reddy will return home.
On Sunday, while the Indian team visited Old Trafford to interact with Manchester United players, Nitish Reddy was absent, alongside KL Rahul. However, there are no fitness concerns surrounding Rahul.
With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy still up for grabs, the team management might consider recalling Shardul Thakur, who played in the first Test at Leeds.
