Deepti Sharma, the Indian all-rounder, has decided to pull out of The Hundred 2025 due to concerns about managing her workload. She will be replaced in the London Spirit squad by Australian player Charli Knott.
Deepti led the Spirit to victory in the 2024 edition's title clash. She is currently in England for India's ongoing white-ball series against the hosts. Her decision to withdraw stems from a busy international schedule leading up to the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in September and November. Before the World Cup, India is scheduled to host Australia, the reigning champions, for a three-match preparatory series in early September.
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 8th, the London Spirit franchise acknowledged Deepti's contribution: "Deepti will always hold a special place in Spirit history. She produced the team's most iconic moment when she struck the ball over long-on for six to secure our first The Hundred title last summer. She starred with both bat and ball throughout the tournament, and was the highest-ranked Spirit player in the MVP standings. We hope to welcome her back to Lord's in future years."
Charli Knott, 22, brings significant experience to the squad, having played 59 matches for Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash League. She also represented the Southern Brave franchise in The Hundred last year. Knott will be the third Australian player in the Spirit roster this year, joining Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne.
"I can't wait to take the field with the London Spirit this year," said Knott. "Having experienced the excitement The Hundred has to offer during my short stint last year, I am very much looking forward to playing again this year. It will be a great opportunity to play with and against the best cricketers in the world at the Home of Cricket."
