Shoaib Bashir, the English off-spinner, will miss the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 series between England and India. The setback comes after he sustained a fracture in his left hand. He is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week to address the injury.
The incident occurred on Day 3 of the third Test. While attempting a caught-and-bowled off Ravindra Jadeja in the 78th over of India's first innings, Bashir suffered the fracture. He immediately left the field and did not participate for the rest of the innings.
Despite the injury, Bashir displayed resilience by batting in England's second innings, scoring two runs off nine balls. Although visibly hampered, he returned to bowl later on the fifth day when India's lower order posed a challenge to England. He eventually secured the final wicket of Mohammad Siraj, sealing a thrilling victory for England. Throughout the series, Bashir claimed 10 wickets in three matches, averaging 54.1.
Over the past few years, Bashir has become a key spinner for England, often chosen over his Somerset teammate Jack Leach. It remains uncertain whether Leach will be recalled to replace Bashir. Other potential contenders include Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson, and Tom Hartley.
